Re: An example using Softstep with only standard Max objects

here's a revision with a few more notes and a couple hard coded message boxes. If these don't work, maybe you're not connected right or the midiout may not be selecting the right port somehow? Not sure.

Re: An example using Softstep with only standard Max objects

Here's an example patch I did to test out the control of the LED's. It works on my end and is extremely scaled back. The intention with this is not that it would be used as-is inside somebody else's patch, but rather as an explanation of my understanding of how to control them. If you understand wha...

Re: An example using Softstep with only standard Max objects

That's the plan/idea (to build it into a patch as a custom thing. On his webpage is just the one link/post so it's hard to tell if it's old/current etc.. I just want to start from the most recent discoveries (particularly knowing that sysex stuff can brick things if used wrongly). Howdie, new to th...

Re: An example using Softstep with only standard Max objects

Hey, Chris! Yes, I got a tip from this board to the lh_ objects and that should fix the final hurdle, I've been distracted from this onto other things and so haven't had the chance to really test it though. The latest version of my JS stuff will incorporate all your discoveries, rate limiting of me...

Re: An example using Softstep with only standard Max objects

Howdie, new to the forum here as well. So in reading it looks like there's a couple of options for using only native objects to get the softstep working (including Jeff's and Stefan(sp?) and maybe one more?). Is this (Jeff's) the most current/recent version of this? You could checkout his website a...

Re: An example using Softstep with only standard Max objects

Hey Tom, Not sure if you're already hip to this, but if you want to leverage MIDI in M4L in interesting ways, you might want to checkout Leigh Hunt's lh_midiin and lh_midiout. http://www.maxobjects.com/?v=libraries&id_library=151&PHPSESSID=0465a1b457ad5361c5ead128139a942b I've found them to ...

Re: An example using Softstep with only standard Max objects

Thanks! I just updated the example patch and made it even simpler. The above link should still be good. -C

Re: An example using Softstep with only standard Max objects

Hmm, As far as I can tell there is an independent message for the "yellow" color (looks orange to me but...). I've put together another annotated example patch which hopefully demonstrates this relatively clearly: http://christopherlavender.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/lav.soft_led_cntrl...

Re: An example using Softstep with only standard Max objects

Probably good advice for any piece of hardware, but I did leave this scrolling patch running today with a paragraph's worth of text for about 4 hours without any issues. I even cranked the metro up to 1ms for a while, and although it was difficult to read the LED :-D still no issues. But these are C...

Re: An example using Softstep with only standard Max objects

No sweat man. So far your patch is working great for me! The sys-ex messages should be fine. If you send a device sys-ex that it knows what to do with all is good. It's when the device gets a sys-ex message, which it doesn't recognize that very bad things can happen. Thus, free-styling sys-ex messag...
