Re: Humming noise

Just in case someone else wants to try: We believe what's happening is that your guitar strings are ungrounded which is why when your body gets near the SoftStep you begin to pick up the energy from the EL Lights and then your body acts as a conductor for when you touch the ungrounded guitar strings...

Re: Humming noise

I'm trying to find a way to simulate putting the extra line in my sock solution.

Maybe this weekend I will try and perform kmi's suggested test solution that may or may not work.

However, I'm not very guitar tech savy so I might mess up.. Lol.

Re: Humming noise

another note: after upgrading to the new version, the noise is even louder.

I know KMI has been trying to help us fix this, but I figured they would have put some sort of notice in their setup guide or atleast on their website.

Re: Humming noise

Otis,

FYI, the noise for me is not only coming from the softstep externally, it is also providing the noise internally, so when I am recording in ableton, ableton picks up the noise. Mic or no mic.

Re: Humming noise

someone told me to try using a different plug for my macbook, (three prong), but that didn't work.

KMI staff asked me to try and ground mu guitar strings properly, but I have been having a hard time doing that.

I have had to restring my guitar 5 times now trying to get it to work.

Re: Humming noise

I'm sure they are looking into this, but they have to prioritize. I have faith. The kmi staff is awesome. I'm sure they will have a solution at some point.

Re: Humming noise

Sarah did ask me to try putting the copper foil in my guitar. I have attempted a couple times, but I am an idiot and I haven't gotten the copper foil to stay proper. I'm going to keep trying, and i'll let you guys know. I will be out of town for a couple weeks though, but I will try to do it before ...

ummmmm... please help refresh my memory as to which is which. When you say pickup, are you referring to the pickups that can be manually installed in the front? and single coil is internal?

Re: Humming noise

kmi asked me to make a modification to my guitar (to help with a possible grounding issue), where I would place a piece of metal under my bridge inside my guitar. I have yet to do it. In the meantime I have left my lights off. I wonder if a different guitar would help fix the issue or if this is uni...
