controlling paramaeters in ableton live.

I am currently making a scene that will control the 8 knobs of a Macro control in live. I have many macros and I would like the scene to control which ever devise is selected in ableton. Is this possible, or is it better just to create an individual scene for each Macro, and switch between them on the softstep?
While i'm on the subject, the same controls for an axiom 25 in live (presets 18,19,20) would be very cool for the softstep. they control drum racks, devices, and clips. I can make them myself, but the same problem persists.... how do i have the softstep scene control the selected parameters in live?

Use MIDI mapping in Ableton. Arm MIDI mapping (button is in upper right hand corner) select a control in Ableton (a Macro is fine) then hit a pad on SS (usually I use Pressure Live or Pressure Latch within the modline) and that control will be mapped to that pad. I have found if I use the hot swap button to change racks in LIVE, the existing MIDI mapping to SS persists.

Hope this helps.

hot swap, thanks man. any suggestions for mapping arrow keys? I would also like to be able to navigate through my tracks, scenes, and devices.

Hi,
Currently, you have to midi map on your own. In the near future, we will be releasing a series of Controller Scripts for Live which will allow SoftStep to control mixer and transport controls. Eventually we will have scripts available to control the parameters of devices you select and Drum Racks...

Thanks

that sounds great! even without scripts i find the softstep to be a wonderful controller. I'm using it with a live acoustic drum kit, and its working out great after only one week. Its actually very inspirational. I find programming the software to be pretty straight forward (although still learning). My only problem right now is trying to decide if i should program midi notes or CCs to when assigning function. I've had a few weird things happen with a novation launchpad, a korg nano kontrol, and in ableton itself. The problems occured with specific CCs. Nothing major, a few weird lights flashing, mute and solo track issues, some scenes launching on their own, and i believe the controller was somehow launching itunes. I'm not sure about the itunes, but the only thing different was my softstep. i wonder if i shoud use note numbers instead, or if i will just encounter different issues.
Any suggestions on CCs or midi note numbers when programming with ableton live would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
Glad your having success - welcome to the club . . .
One way to view notes/CC's is as 'switches/variables' but you can also use CC's as switches usually - either 0/127 or 0-63/64127 . . . so maybe just notes for notes and CC's for control.
There have been various reports of conflicts between various midi gear - a complex thing to trouble shoot because of different drivers etc lots of variables . . .
Re specific midi stuff - check out the MIDI standards/GM etc - they do have a few different things defined but not everyone follows it.
Individual Live sets may have controllers mapped already - Check there when things go astray maybe - make sure you have the right MIDI ports assigned as well . . .
With the release of the Max DevKit we will see many different custom solutions brewed up as SS M4L effects which will be another avenue to take as well

Hope that helps

Hey Pmgo,
I get conflicts with the live automapping on my Launchpad and all of my MIDI controllers. To resolve this, I've been using my SoftStep on a different MIDI channel than my Launchpad.

The Launchpad automatically maps itself to a whole bunch of CCs, which makes MIDI mapping complicated, channel switching should help...

Its been awhile, but I eventually set up a user remote script to handle this. Very easy to do, and now i have one scene that controls my 8 macros in any rack for live. Only works in standalone mode, but Ihave found this mode to better suit my needs, and since i only use a macbook (not pro) I don't use all that ram.

also, its hella easy to set up the pads of the softstep to control drum racks in ableton through use of the user remote script.
