cc return values not always sent right

Postby Danimal » Mon Oct 14, 2013 6:28 am

i just set up a cc controller preset for my octatrack (controlling things like retrigger, samplerate and -pitch etc. with pressure or tilt, keyboardlayer off).
problem is, that qunexus doesnt seem to send the cc return value right! it stays more often somewhere (when key is released), than going back to return-value set in the editor (mostly set to 0, 63 or 127). this on (f.e.) retriggering produces annoying results of, you almost guessed it, retriggerrampage...
pressing/tilting again sometimes causes return to "return-value" or make things even worse (like decreasing retriggertime to 0,01/16 steps and staying there...). and yes, latch is off, has to, because there are the returnvalues ;)

same thing with other midi-gear like slim phatty or analog4! so i assume an issue @ kmi side...

also tried out several sensitivity settings (editor:top/right), with no effect on returnbehavior!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the problem is on our end. We've noticed that controller layer doesn't send out return values consistently when transmitting over the Expander. It works fine over USB, just not with Expander. This has been logged as a bug already and will get fixed when we update the QuNexus firmware.

thanks for your reply! looking forward to a firmwareupdate, hopefully comming soon. i´m a elektron user, so i´m used to the fact, things stop bugging months after purchase ;) but when they work like they were intended to, they rock! hope similar things to kmi world!

btw, is it possible to have two devices (qunexus and quneo) hooked to one expander? would save money and a midislot in my merdger...

regards

It's not possible to use multiple controllers with a single MIDI Expander (via a USB hub or something). The Expander signal isn't your standard USB signal (which is why a hub doesn't work) — it's essentially just sending a plain old serial MIDI signal using the USB pins/cable instead of a 5-pin MIDI cable.

If you were able to fashion some sort of Y USB cable that merged the two together (two micro-USB-B connectors mixing to a single USB-A connector) it might actually work. Basically it would be building a MIDI merger but with USB connectors instead of 5-pin DIN connectors. But that's just hypothetical at this point, so no guarantees.

thanks for your reply! but just bought a second expander. seems the easiest way ;)

any news, when firmwareupdate will arrive? because with the reurn-value-bug, i really can´t use it as a controller! its a pitty!

An iconnect midi interface allows for up to 8 USB Controllers.
I've never had any issues with mine.
