EXPRESSION PEDALS

Hi there Softstep users,

I would like to get another expression pedal for my Softstep 2 - seeing as the Moog EP3 does NOT function correctly when connected to the SS2, and was wondering if anyone on here (or support) can suggest a good alternative.

Thanks

Actually I have used the Moog pedal with success, but I went back to using an old Roland EV5 for size and feel.
I still occasionally have curious behavior that I attribute to the software not the pedal.
Make sure you do your calibration in standalone, and remember to send it to your SoftStep.

Good luck,
Dirk

For what it's worth, I just took delivery of a Dunlop DVP4 Volume X Mini pedal (which can act as either a volume pedal or an expression pedal) - I hooked it up to my SoftStep 2 via a TRS cable and the provided 3.5mm adapter and it works beautifully :D

I've been through a lot of different expression pedals. Finally settled on the Mission Engineering EP-1. A little more expensive than others, but has a great feel and is built like a tank :)

ps-> just noticed that the EP-1 Classic Black is on sale.

Thanks for the tips.

Am looking at whatever is lightweight.

Just bumping this again (apologies), but I hope I do find an exp pedal that functions smoothly.

I tried various settings my Moog EP3 connected to the SS2 again yesterday as I am travelling for a gig and not taking some of my gear, and it is the same story. No response for the first part of the pedal travel in Ableton. It is not the pedal, which works flawlessly in Ableton when connected through a midi keyboard's port. Tried various modline and settings/calibrations etc but no dice.

Such a pity, because the Softstep is really fantastic.

Make sure you turn the level knob on the side all the way up, same goes for the Roland EV-5.
Both pedals need to have the full range available.
Good luck,
Dirk

The EP3 doesn't use a 10k linear pot, which is what the SS2 wants to hear. I believe the EP3 has a 50k pot, which could account for the uneven response in the lower part of the pedal travel.

Thanks for that info, good to know finally.

KMI should make that info available to users or potential buyers of the softstep.

Here is a list of pedals and pot values:
:ugeek:
Bespeco VM18L - 20k
Boss FV-500 - 10k linear (expression pot)
Boss EV-5 - 10k linear
Boss EV-7 - 10k linear ("extra range" pot adds up to 50k ohms)
Boss FV-50L - 50k linear
Ernie Ball VP jr. (active) - 25k log
Ernie Ball VP jr. (passive) - 250k log
Korg EXP-2 - 50k linear
Kurzweil CC-1 - 20k linear
Line6 EX-1 - 10k linear
Mission EP-L6 - 10k linear
Moog EP-2 - 50k linear (reducable)
M-Audio EX-P - 10k linear
Pigtronix EP-1 - 20k
Proel Volume Pedal - 100k linear
Roland RV-5 - 10k linear
TC Electronic X1 - 25k log
Yamaha ep-1 20k
Schaller f 121 volume pedal 100k
QUIKLOK VP26U is Switchable 10K or 50K
Mission Engineering Inc EP-1 Expression Pedal 10k

Also, just saw this - sorry, it is slightly OT but looks good if you want to have more exp pedals than one.
Looks ace.

I just bought a DOD Mini Expression pedal... and so far it works great. It's specified as a "Linear 25kΩ/10kΩ potentiometer". In the manual it further states: Impedance switch changes from 25kΩ (top/bottom) to 10kΩ (middle) to accommodate Line 6®-style CC inputs.

Although... strangely if I calibrate via the SoftStep Advanced Editor... the range is greatly reduced... so I just keep it at a reset calibration linear state... and it's smooth
