Turn back light off permanently in hosted

Postby SLP » Sun Feb 17, 2013 3:09 pm

Turn back light off permanently.
I use ss primarily in hosted and every time I plug it in, it reverts to them being on though I've off'd them and saved.
Any work around?

+1 for finding this out as well

I have not tested this properly in standalone mode but certainly don't want to be in a situation to have to re-attach a computer onstage every time the power outs on the SS, just to get rid of any potential buzz (see FAQ) resulting from the backlight.

This is a really serious issue, I hope Support can kindly clarify this!

Thanks

Just to clarify stays off in stand alone, but hosted it returns to on position.

Yeah it took me forever with no solution, until KMI finally revealed the fix. Check the last page of this thread:

Thanks SLP
Yes, you can turn off the backlight in STANDALONE mode (and it stays off)

"Can I turn off the EL lights?

Yes, you can. Open the Settings window by clicking the "open settings" button (located toward the top-right of the SoftStep Editor's main window) and turn off the "EL ON/OFF" switch. If you're running in Hosted mode, your SoftStep's lights should instantly turn off. In order for the EL to stay off even when unplugging and plugging back in, go into Standalone mode's Settings window to change the EL setting, save your settings, and then download this to the board by clicking the "download" button in the main window. This should download your new settings to your SoftStep and the lights should stay off. "

Thanks!

Thanks to SLP for the tip!

However many times I read it, my version of the RTFManual - and the FAQ (see below) don't mention how to switch it off permanently in Standalone mode... (which is to go do it Standalone mode - doh!)

If you are experiencing noise or hum in your audio setup that you believe is caused by the SoftStep check to see if this is due to the Electro-Luminescent (EL) backlighting of the SoftStep by going into the Settings window of the SoftStep application and set the EL to off. If this makes the audio noise stop then what you'll want to do is adjust the grounding of your audio set up.

Perhaps the FAQ and the Manual shd be slightly updated to add this extra essential detail?
:-)
