pedal in useless?

Postby gzap » Mon Jul 20, 2015 6:47 am

I've been failing at being able to use pressure latch as a usable show dependable footpedal so today brought in a couple of expression pedals to try, but the softstep doesn't track them well enough to use.

Tried:
moog expression
roland ev5
boss volume

Using all three the softstep doesn't track the lower ranges of the pedal, it jumps up to around 40-60 in cc values at about half the pedal. The pedals all track perfectly using a logidy pedal, so i know they work fine.

Is this a design flaw or is there a way to make it work?

Have you adjusted the Global Sensitivity at al in the Editor? Try resetting the Global sensitivity in the Settings window of the editor. That should get your range back to normal.
Also be sure that your adapter is stereo to stereo, and that it is in good working order. Those adapters can be dodgy sometimes.

Tried resetting the sensitivity and recalibrating.
Same issue.

Does the global sensitivity affect the pedal sensitivity?
Is there no other way to do it?

Its still unusable like this.

Tried three pedals, all work with a logidy pedal, none work with the softstep.

Yes, the global sensitivity affects the expression pedal sensitivity, in an adverse way. Reset the sensitivity and don't change it.

How about not calibrating?
What does your calibration graph look like?
Basic or Advanced Editor?
Hosted or Standalone?
What does your Modline look like?
How are you monitoring the data?

My moog expression pedal works flawlessly, as do EV 5s (that's what we recommend our customers to use).

Reset it and it didn't help.
How about not calibrating?
Will try that, but I don't expect it to help as the calibration curves are pretty subtle.
What does your calibration graph look like?
Close to a diagonal line, small hump in the middle, tried multiple calibration graphs, comes out a bit different each time, with all three pedals used. Different, but not radical.
Basic or Advanced Editor?
Advanced.
Hosted or Standalone?
Hosted.
What does your Modline look like?
Its a mod line in Nav pad control (I assume you could put it on any pedal, but since there isn't an expression pedal control assumed the nav pad was as good as any).

mode - none, value - 0, source - pedal, raw, gain - 1.00, offset - 0, table - linear, min - 0, max - 127, smooth - 0 (tried quite a few settings), delay - 0, message - cc

How are you monitoring the data?
a) watching data in settings/pedal
b) watching data in mod line in Nav settings
c) watching fader move in Live

Tried with three different pedals:
Moog - with chord it comes with through sofstep 1/4" to 1/8" adapter
Roland EV5 - with attached chord into sofstep adapter
Roland volume pedal - with dual 1/4" to 1/8" adapter

Tried all three pedals into a Logidy UMI3, all three work fine in the logidy.

Will try tomorrow without calibrating the pedal, but don't think it will change much, based on all the fiddling I've done tonight.

Just reset the calibration and its the same issue.
First cc registered happens halfway up the pedal.

Have you tried different adapters? That seems the most likely source in this situation.

Yes, as noted above.

Tried
Boss EV5 with attached chord.
Moog expression pedal with two different chords and adapters.
volume pedal with 2 1/4" to 1/8" chord (just in case, I know its not supposed to work).

Each pedal has the same result.

Nothing registered until 50% of the pedal run, but all three work perfectly with a logidy umi3.

It still might be the adapter. The Logidy has a 1/4" input, so it doesn't need an adapter.
That's really the only thing that could be giving you problems, if we have tried in Hosted and Standalone Mode.
The EV5 and Moog EP models work flawlessly, as I've stated, if the setup and cables are all in order.
Or it's the SS itself, but we rarely see failed Expression ports, so I'm reluctant to say that's the issue.

Have you tried using the expression pedal in Standalone mode?

Its not the adapter, I have another 1/4" to 1/8" in my kit and it didn't work with that either.
Exactly the same issue with the Moog into my adapter as with the softstep adapter.

That means it must be the softstep, then I assume.
