Smooth X/Y response with Live

Hello,

with release of 1.2 my most hated problem of sistematic crash when trying to update the templates got solved and I could finally start using the QuNeo!!!

I tried to map the X/Y of a pad to an auto filter frequency and response. This is one of the uses I supported the project for.

Unfortunately the response is not good at all. It flichers, it gets stucked and it's not usable at all.
I've tried different settings and sensitivities but no luck at all.
I'm a beginner with MIDI, but I've read that ableton has some kind of limitation with aftertouch signals.

Is this the cause of my issue??

Do someone has a good set of settings to achieve a smooth X/Y response??

Sergio, I don' t know Live very well, but if you use a midi monitor program, you can examine the raw midi messages going out of the Quneo. I like to use the editor to turn off all the different items coming out of a key and just examine one thing, like x or y. Looking at the raw CCs should give you an idea of what level of control you can potentially obtain in a program like Live.

Tonight I will try to do it. I really hope is just a matter of interaction with Ableton and this is the way to make sure about it.

It's really cool! It's much better than I though!
I've found out that you need continuos pressure and you have to press it stronger than a touchscreen let's say.
This is because the LATCH doesn't work for me even if I had at first the literal "latch" in the control of the pad and then tried to change it to zero as suggested on manual.

I'm trying to go for sensitivity topped but I'd really need to rely on LATCH functionality.

Is this a know issue and has it already been worked around somehow???

So glad I can finally use my quneo and it is taking me so long just to get one thing to work AS I WISH. I'm serious eheheheh.

I didn't understand your question ... just to be sure tho, latch on the pads is achieved by setting return values to -1 not 0.

So what I want to achieve is the capability to map an x/y controller (Let's say autofilter in Live) to a single pad.
It has to be the smoothest and fastest response.
Experimenting yesterday I found that response is preatty regular altough a little bit choppy while the speed in which I could get from 0 to 127 could not really keep up.
I haven't tried -1 as return value.
Today, after work, I will leave for two weeks of diving in thailand :D so I will try when I'll get back home.

For the holidays I got myself a copy of AniMoog to keep producing :D.

I've been playing with the same thing--trying to get an x/y pad to smoothly control an x/y in Live. Started out very ugly, and I almost gave up on the QuNeo. But with some persistence, and careful examination of the Manual, I managed to get it to work. Even then, it takes some practice to learn what type of finger pressure gets the best results. (Then it stopped working!?!)

Make sure you play with the sensitivity settings on the Advanced Tab for each pad. Threshold and the velocity table are where it's at.

The -1 latch trick is buried in the Manual. KMI guys: how about putting that one higher up, and in the FAQ. "I can't get the pads to latch." The answer is to put -1 in the Return field, and it works. It says "latch" in the field. Same goes for PITCH BEND, which you get when you put -2 in the x and/or y fields (for drum mode).

QuNeo is a novel and ambitious new controller. The manual is very clear on some things, murky on others, and is full of statements that really require a lot more explanation. Trial and error can sometimes reveal the secrets of this thing, but not always. Combined with the fact that the software is still buggy makes it even more important to get the manual right. The video tutorials aren't enough--at the time when you're programming pads and troubleshooting is not the time to go back to a video. You need a reliable manual. PLEASE, guys, put a manual re-write/update in your production schedule, along with fixing the bugs.

Is there a code for pressure to aftertouch?

Also, I'm working on a live setup that uses x, y to select switch between chains in a instrument group. I'd like each pad corner to play a different chain. It works fine sometimes but often the x, y doesn't change quick enough to switch chains at the time of hit. Will increased sencitivity help x, y values jump quicker to where my finger presses? Can I do that somehow without changing velocity sencitivity?

Kinbu,

Play with the settings of the MIDI mappings in Live. And play with sensitivities. As I understand it, sensitivity rules the response of the pad to your finger pressure, not speed. In the mapping settings, usually toggles go from 64 to 127, but if you set it to start at 1 it kicks in faster. Try it.

I'm not aware of a hardwired code to aftertouch. Isn't there a standard MIDI CC for aftertouch?

Why not use Grid Mode then? Where each pad has four zones you can easily trigger. Probably easier than converting XY data to your requirements.
