Octave buttons cause held notes to retrigger

Postby bhinton » Fri Jul 12, 2013 6:42 pm

Howdy- so far liking the qunexus except for this, which I hope is a bug and not by design! When engaging the octave buttons while playing (absolutely necessary for many passages) any notes currently held down are retriggered in their new octave! This makes the unity nearly useless for playing anything continuous of complexity that doesn't take place within two octaves, and is the opposite of every other controller with octave control I've used. The editor doesn't seem to have any function for changing this behavior, and I find no reference to it in any of the manuals. Do I have a faulty unit? Or is this intentional? If the latter... yikes, I love many things about this but I'm not sure I can even use it for what I do, even with the sorely needed poly aftertouch...

Yep - it's a hassle.

Haven't found a way to disable yet.

Yep, intentional.

I'll put in a feature request for changing this. Other keyboards of a similar form factor can remember which keys were held down and turn them off properly when in the new octave — don't see why QuNexus can't.

Just wanted to say "me too" in terms of really wanting to not re-trigger during octave changes.
Eagerly anticipating an update.

Thanks.

Please leave the option to retrigger on octave change, though. I sort of like it this way - put a tickbox on the QuNexus editor so I can have different layouts with different behavior.

Yeah, I imagine when this gets implemented it would be some sort of switch you can set. You can do some fun little things now with the octave retriggering.

Thanks. BTW, would it be possible to set pressure sensitivity separately from velocity sensitivity? I suspect not because they're probably using the same sensor, but I'll ask anyways!

I noticed this, and searched out this forum to see if there was any explanation.

I can imagine the decision-making here. Unlike many other octave-shifting keyboards, this one has a "toggle" feature right up front. I'm guessing that they were having problems with a toggled-on key getting lost in the shuffle when shifting octaves, so they did this as a workaround.

So I've come to accept it as one of this gizmo's idiosyncrasies.

But it should be mentioned in the manual.
