How to control Ableton Live

Postby sp_key » Fri Jun 22, 2018 12:38 am

Hi,

Apologies if this question is too basic or, has been asked before.
I'm quite new to the QuNexus, I have bought it a few days ago.

Already, I'm loving it. Very portable, light and sensitive.

There is one thing though I would like to be able to do and I'm not sure how and whether it is feasible at all.
Is it possible to control Ableton Live is a similar way Push does?

Ideally, I would like to be able to:
a) navigate channels on session view,
b) arm track & record,
c) launch clip and/or scene,
d) navigate sounds and/or instruments in the ableton explorer and
e) map it to VST parameters or effects

Any help or steer in the right direction would be highly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi,

Many thanks for the speedy reply!
I have now copied the files under Live's remote scripts folder and I'm able to find it in MIDI preferences.

Are there an instructions on how to set it up so that to be able to do all the above?
I'm not sure how to proceed after having selected the inputs and outputs on Live's MIDI preferences.

Kind Regards

Hi,

Many thanks for your speedy reply.
I have now copied the below files under Live's remote scripts folder and I'm now wondering what next.

Are there any instructions or guidance that you're aware of?

Kind Regards

Many thanks for your continuous support.

Also, my apologies. Please, rest assured I am spending time reading the various different manuals that come with the controller as well as here on the website's blog and articles, and not just on the forum.

However, I'm still struggling with this and is probably complex for my level.

In Ableton Live, under the MIDI section there is no Port 1 available for QuNexus as you will see from the attached screenshot.
Only QuNexus and Ports 2 & 3. According to the manual, Ports 2 & 3 can be used like Port 1. However, when I chose either of them the same way you're recommending for port 1, nothing happens when I try the pads.

I can confirm I have the correct preset selected.

I've also investigated through the Editor but it's way beyond me.

I am using Ableton Live 10 with Windows 10.
Could this be the reason?
Any thoughts?

Kind Regards

Port 2 is for the Expander, and port 3 is for CV. They are not the same as port 1, and I don't think the manual states that anywhere.

The copy I have states the below:

"QuNexus has 3 virtual MIDI ports that communicate with the computer. Port 1 is the main port on which the QuNexus sends and receives MIDI data to and from the computer or iPad. Port 2 and 3 can be used for this purpose as well but are also used for communication with other devices".

This is page 9/63 of the full manual. The way I interpret the above is that I can use ports 2 or 3 instead given that port 1 (as per your advice) is unavailable.

I may be mistaken however, I would like to clarify (in case this wasn't obvious enough) that the point of this *support request* is not whether my interpretation of the manual is correct but that I need some help to make the device work as per customer expectations.

Is this something you could kindly help me with or are you suggesting this forum is not the place for me to get help on this?

Is there any information on how to access port 1 please if that is not visible as per the screenshot I attached?

Port 1 is the port that is not port 2 or 3. On Windows it doesn't have a "1" it's simply "QuNexus", so its visible and available. The phrase in the manual states that port 2 and 3 can pass MIDI to and from your your computer, but that data goes to and comes from a connected Expander, or CV device respectively.

You can use this forum to get technical support, which I am providing, or you can get in touch with our support department via our website, and then I can provide support there.
