1st. Download and install the driver (if your cable does not work try another USB 2.0 cable, I had issues with the supplied cable and the K-mix was not recognized. I am only using bus powered, no power adapter
2. Go to sound properties in windows and right click on the speaker and click sounds
3. click k-mix and go to properties
4. and go to the advanced tab then select 24-bit 44.1 khz (This worked for me, I was having issues hearing youtube and mp3's and all other audio files while the setting was different that 44.1. Note The K-mix defaults to 96K 24-bit so this will need to be changed to 24-bit 44.1
click apply and ok
5. On the same page as windows sound properties click configure
6. Click the speaker configuration to stereo
7. open K-mix usb audio control panel and make sure you have the following settings
