Multiple control

Postby snorhyvel » Fri Aug 30, 2013 3:48 am

Hi, I'm new to this device, and before I spend to much time on this I want to ask if what I want to acheive is possible :)

My plan is that I want to control my mixing console via OSC(midi), my lighting (Lightjockey via midi) and my backtrack transport on my PC via USB (keyworks).

What I want is to put Play/pause on #1 arrow up and down on the sotfstep arrows, effect returns on/off on #2, effect return volume on #3 (pressure sense) and the rest will be for controlling the lights... Is this possible you think? will it mean that keyworks always have to run on my PC? can I even mix keyworks with "normal use"?

You can't run KeyWorx and the "normal" SoftStep functionality at the same time.

There is a way to "trick" KeyWorx into working properly while the SoftStep stays in normal Standalone mode, but it only works on Mac and takes a bit of setup every single time you want to use the setup.

Like I said many times, to get the best results with the Softstep and achieve all kinds of "complex" tasks, double presses, led feedback etc. you'd better use an app called Bome Midi Translator, while in Standalone mode. Almost anything you dream of is possible :). Not the case - at all - with the Softstep editor. We're a lot here waiting for a new software, rewritten from scratch. It's been years. We got promises but nothing happens and, most of all, KMI's communication is POOR. Sigh…

It's true. Bome's is an amazing thing for all MIDI controllers.

That's right, all controllers. But that doesn't mean you guys at KMI should forget us and not focus on writing something more usable. A new editor, please !

You know… frankly it's not that we don't believe you at all. But we've been hearing those "one of these days" since quite a time now. Again, more regular communication letting us know about your progress and more specific deadlines would help a lot !

personally im happy with what my softstep/12 setp and quneo can output. I think some of the tasks people ask for on here are way outside of what should be supported via firmware.

If i were going to try and control multiple software with the one bit of hardware (KMI hardware, or any other midi device) i would use bome on windows, or osculator on mac.

whilst the softstep editor is time consuming... it does most of what i need to allow me to run it in stand alone mode, and do all my midi stuff on the computer. which is how i want to do it.

Yeah, I definitely think both sides would be better served if there were more of a personal communication going on, rather than a sort of "faceless, corporate entity"-esque sort of thing that's going on. Or even just more communication.

And I certainly understand the frustration of "Yeah, we're going to update the SoftStep soon! (A year passes) Yeah, it'll happen soon!" thing. But this time it is in actual development. I just made a design of the new Easy Editor UI a couple of days ago.
